FYI "A work group will be assigned to gather facts and figures regarding this issue"
from the un-official minutes of the last town board meeting as published in the Harper County Journal. With the "issue" being police protection.
Right now the Town of Buffalo/ board/ city hall is mostly focused on golf course sprinkler systems, completely remodeling and then selling(giving away) the Legion/Duckwalls building for $5000, under the guise of an economic incubator, and then in turn eventually renting space from them after they sell it so they can move city hall there to allow for more expansion of the clinic that will consume all of the current city hall building where they are now.
Where will the Town of Buffalo police department be located at after all of this? Not to mention the issues of the extra paper work that the ”at pleasure of the board(elected)” employees will have to endure if there was an actual police department. Meanwhile the documented population of this town has increase 8.3% since the year 2000 and along with it the crime rates. And our fine board can’t even direct the City Manager to fill the vacated positions of the "on the books" police department.
Until the people connected to city hall get their collective noses pried away from the hospital/clinic scenario and golf course sprinklers there probably won’t be any effort on their part to fill the police department’s slots. Assigning a work group to gather facts and figures regarding this issue gets the monkey off of their back. I’ll let you guess what entity the two initial work group members are connected to.
The annual budget is being put together by the auditor for approval in the next several weeks. Now is the time to put the heat on the board to make sure the focus is directed where the taxpaying citizens want it to be. Who will win this go round? Clinic? Doby? Police?
Dear Greg,
ReplyDeleteYou know I love you so I have to tell you are focusing on the negative. Could you please focus on the positive? I know the city is working hard to find a solution. A group is investigating the best way to resolve the situation. There may be things you are not aware of. Anyway, while our hometown of Buffalo may have some problems -no more than any other small town in this economy - you are contributing to the problem, not the solution. Everyone should have to serve in an office of public service during their career to understand the pressures placed on those officers.
Hugs, Carolyn
“It is bad enough that so many people believe things without any evidence. What is worse is that some people have no conception of evidence and regard facts as just someone else’s opinion.”-Sowell
DeleteWhy have a police dept? Half our town board would end up with DUI's and contribute to our overflowing jail issue.
DeleteI think Greg does a fair job of investigtaing, reporting issues and valid complaints. It's unfortunate that others think that by turning a blind eye or deaf ear is a "positive" way of solving things. Say nothing, do nothing is not the foundation this country is founded on. The years of back biting and personal vendetas needs to end NOW. This town is suffering and is filling up with the scum of the earth, but you don't want to hear about the negative. Wait until it's your or your family's house broken into, business robbed, or child abducted/abused or even worse. Then will you still be all butterflies and sunshine? The problem is here and now. It's not personal and it is affecting everyone in the community. Kudos Greg for having the sack to call a duck a duck. -Candee Brossman
ReplyDeleteLet me just say that Greg is A-L-W-A-Y-S going to have a vendeta against the town board and the city manager just because he cannot seem to make his way on the board....we all know that all he does is sit in front of his computer and ponder on what negative BS he can possibly come up with about the town board, hospital, city manager, golf course...and etc. My opinion is he needs to GET A LIFE and stay out of everyone elses! I do understand that the crime rate is up in Buffalo but let me tell you that it is up in Laverne also and we DO have a police department. If some parents would just step in and be a parent instead of trying to be their child's best friend and learn how to discipline and take action then maybe there would be LESS crimes there in Buffalo. ~ Angie
DeleteAngie,
DeleteDo you know what a Republic is?
I agree, Candee. Greg does do an excellent job investigating and getting facts. That is why we asked if he would be willing to be a member of the "brainstorming" group. On my part, no conspiracies going on or hidden agendas, just trying to get everyone to stay focused on the main issue at hand which is providing a better law enforcement presence within the city limits of Buffalo. One goal - better law enforcement for the citizens of this town! -Jo Ellen
ReplyDeleteDate, time and location of meeting? It should probably have been held within a few days of being built at the last board meeting. Hurry up and wait..... wait - is that a white rabbit going down that hole?
ReplyDeleteAnonymous, date time and location of the group meeting has been set. Contact me if you would like to be a part of the group! I'm in the phone book!
ReplyDeleteShouldn't the meeting information go public in order to create positive momentum instead of a secret society members only situation...
ReplyDeleteTired of the "keep it on the DL" attitude people have around here. City government should be transparent, ALL government should be transparent.
Anonymous, you are more than welcome to come to this informal citizens "brainstorming" group meeting, as long as you are willing to be part of the solution! The meeting is next monday evening, July 30th, 6:00pm at the Alumni Building. Hope to see you there, and please bring plenty of positive ideas with you!
ReplyDeleteOh, I forgot to add that this group is not a part of City government, or any other governmental entity. We are just a group of concerned citizens trying to find solutions to our current law enforcement situation.
ReplyDeleteThere has been a change in location for the Citizens Group meeting about law enforcement tonight. It will be at the Northwestern Electric building where there is AIR CONDITIONING! Meeting starts at 6pm.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the post. I had been looking for something related and found your web site in the process.. I will definitely be back for more.
